The digital selection of ‘replications’ is driven by empirical choices, which concern the making of images in this contemporary culture.  In our current state, various filters on a digital camera replace the light that illuminates a traditional photogram.  Light is still content, but in this case it functions as a site for seduction.  The strange, undulating quality sets up a “hyper” sense of reality.  An experience that reflects on these Jade trees or “rock plants”, as Magritte would have described his cacti.  These “rock plants” cast shadows that skew our sense of space.  Here, the dispersed darkness camouflages its intrinsic form. Ultimately, we are left with an eerie meditation, a perversion of the smaller things in the living world.  –joseph lee
